The Great Adi Sankaracharya recommended worshipping her with Lalitha ashtottaram in place of Durga ashtottara so that she would appear in most peaceful form-Lalitha or Kanakadurga.
Durga sapthashati and other Vedic literature have specified about Sri Kanaka Durga on the Indrakeelaadri and have explained the deity as Swayambhu, (self-manifested) in Triteeya Kalpa.
The meaning of the Durga in Sanskrit is a fort, or is a place which is very difficult to reach. And one more meaning of Durga is Durgatinashini meaning is the one who removes your sufferings. Hindus believe that Durga Devi protects her devotees from the evils of the world and removes their sorrows.
