71st Independence Day Speech 2017 Live from Red Fort, New Delhi

Every Year India celebrates Independence Day on 15th August to honor the freedom from British rule. India became an independent nation on August 15, 1947, so this year, it marks the 71st year of Independence. The day starts with the celebrations from the Red Fort on 15th August 2017, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be greeting his fourth address to the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort in New Delhi. Independence Day is also a day to reflect on our nation’s achievements over the past 70 years.

This year marks 70 years of India being a free nation. It is a day occasion to remember those who fought for and sacrificed their lives to free India. India’s freedom struggle was a hard-fought one and Independence Day is the day to pledge to keep the unity and integrity of our country. The immortal words of Pt Jawaharlal Nehru, “At the stroke of the midnight hour, when the world sleeps, India will awake to life and freedom,” perfectly encapsulate this struggle and the consequent euphoria of independence.
